Getting Around Johannesburg
Ride-hailing apps (Uber and Bolt) are by far the safest and easiest way to get around. The Gautrain connects the airport to Sandton and Pretoria efficiently, but walking between areas isn't generally recommended — this is a spread-out, car-dependent city.
Use Uber or Bolt rather than hailing taxis on the street, and avoid walking alone at night — Johannesburg is generally fine in daylight with normal precautions but rewards a bit more caution than Cape Town.
