The Big Buddha of Phuket
At 45 meters tall and covered in white Burmese marble, the Big Buddha (Phra Phuttamingmongkol Akenakiri) sits atop Nakkerd Hill in the southern part of the island, visible from many points around Phuket on a clear day. It's free to visit and one of the few Phuket attractions that combines a religious site with a genuinely panoramic island viewpoint, making it worth the trip even for visitors who aren't specifically drawn to Buddhist sites.
The Views
From the hilltop platform, you get sweeping views across southern Phuket, including Chalong Bay, Kata and Karon beaches, and on especially clear days, out toward the Phi Phi Islands in the distance. Sunset is a particularly popular time to visit, when the marble takes on a warm golden tone and the surrounding sea catches the light.
